Leaders in the higher education community including university presidents, regents, students, and the first group of college access advisors, came together to meet and enjoy lunch with Utah legislators and promote a new college access advising initiative.
The initiative will provide more personalized attention to high schoolers as they begin their journey to higher education. These advisors will help students apply to schools, receive financial aid, and connect with first-year experience offices, like Southern Utah University’s Student Help Center.
Legislative funding will help the Board of Regents place a full-time advisor in every Utah high school by the 2021-2022 school year. The goal of these advisors is to increase the number of students who enroll in school. Currently, 1 out of 3 Utah students don’t enroll in tech or traditional schooling within 5 years of high school graduation.
SUU is excited for this new opportunity and to welcome all the new t-birds that it brings to our campus.
