Southern Utah University wasn’t Caitlin Jones’ first choice for college. After visiting the campus in high school, she fell in love with the small class sizes and beautiful scenery.
While attending SUU, Caitlin was able to build an extensive student teaching portfolio in several disciplines. Before she graduated, Caitlin had taught in seven different schools in seven different grade levels, collected hundreds of community service hours and established valuable relationships with elementary teachers and principals.
Caitlin attributes her exceptional experience at SUU to the outstanding, hands-on professors who gave her the tools and confidence necessary to create a satisfying, successful career.
“Peggy Wittwer was probably the most influential professor I had,” said Caitlin. “She breathed life into hard title one schools, she was kind and approachable, and she made learning fun.”
Caitlin is now living her dream as an elementary school teacher for a title one turnaround school. Her job is exciting and challenging, but everyday she knows that she makes a difference in children’s lives.
“My job is rewarding because I am changing lives,” said Caitlin. “The hugs, smiles, laughs, and relationships I get to build throughout the year is so gratifying. And the growth each child experiences makes me feel accomplished, but more importantly makes my students feel accomplished.”
Teaching is the most rewarding job Caitlin could ever imagine. It was through SUU’s rigorous Elementary Education program that prepared her for a life in public service.
