Faculty Friday; Dr. Adam Lambert, Music

adam-lambert-FF-resized.jpgMusically inclined from a young age, Dr. Adam Lambert has always been drawn to a high calibre of music.

Lambert earned both a bachelor and master’s of music from Brigham Young University. He then earned a doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas (UNT). He was drawn to UNT because it is the largest music school in the country with a reputation for outstanding performance in classical music and jazz- his two passions.

His studies led him to opportunities to play professionally for shows at the Tuacahn Theatre in St. George, Utah, as well as with the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Mary Poppins, South Pacific, Into the Woods, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Lambert also participates in many high school honor band events through Utah and the Las Vegas area.

After attending UNT, Lambert went to teach in Nebraska for seven years; it was here that he started raising his family. When it was time to move on to the next scene of his life, Southern Utah was the perfect fit for both Lambert and his family.

Now, as associate professor of music at Southern Utah University, Lambert teaches the following classes:

  • MUSC 3320 Wind Symphony (band)
  • MUSC 3200 Marching Band
  • MUSC 3300 Jazz Ensemble
  • MUSC 3310 Brass Ensemble
  • MUSC 2350 Fundamentals of Conducting
  • MUSC 3700 Brass Methods
  • MUSC 1400 - 4400 Private Brass (Trumpet/Horn)

Since he started at SUU in 2012, Lambert has fallen in love with seeing students excited about playing and performing well.

“Last year our Wind Symphony performed in Las Vegas and the power went out,” said Lambert. “The students pulled out their phones for light, finished the performance, and received a thunderous applause.”

Over the years, Lambert has received awards and recognition for his work. He has been nominated twice for Outstanding Educator and Outstanding Advisor at SUU. Most notably, he was elected Vice President of Jazz by the Utah Music Educators Association.
