Yesterday afternoon the Salt Lake Tribune published an article entitled, "Southern Utah University Sees Unexpectedly Large Student Exodus." Since it's release, the administration has received a handful of questions from faculty, staff, and community members concerned by the information in the article. As a result, we wanted to clarify some of the numbers in the article and reassure everyone that all is well with our enrollments.
As you all know, we have several types of students enrolled at SUU. In addition to our traditional on-campus undergraduate and graduate students, we also enroll a significant amount of professional continuing education students and high school concurrent enrollment students. Our traditional undergraduate and graduate student enrollments are stronger than they've ever been.
On the day we had to report spring semester enrollments to USHE, timing was such that we had lower enrollments with our continuing education students and high school concurrent enrollment students. In recent weeks, our enrollments in these programs has risen above last year's numbers.
SUU has also released a formal response to the tribune article, which you can find here: http://tbirdnation.suu.edu/letter-to-the-salt-lake-tribune-concerning-fall-to-spring-enrollment-numbers
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to any member of the President's Cabinet. Thanks for all you do for SUU.
