Thunder U is the in-person orientation that takes place right before the start of school. During Thunder U, you will be placed in small interest-based groups while participating in campus traditions, informational sessions, social activities, and so much more. Thunder U is required for all incoming students to attend.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

  • Build relationships with other incoming students
  • Experience SUU’s most beloved traditions
  • Gain insight on getting involved on-campus
  • Participate in lots of social events
  • Learn more about on-campus resources
  • Meet deans, department chairs and other faculty within your major
  • Connect you to campus academic resources
  • Participate in the official Thunderbird welcome

SMALL GROUPS AT THUNDER U

Based off your responses on the TTQ, you will be placed into a small group for Thunder U. This

group is themed around your first interest choice. These small groups are called Tavi Groups and include 10-15 students that share the same interest as you.

Each Tavi Group falls into an overall Nation that includes many differing groups:

  • Music Nation
  • Sports Nation
  • Gaming Nation
  • Art Nation
  • Outdoor Nation
  • Movie Nation
  • Trendy Nation

Each Nation has their own Facebook Page with other incoming students. This group link will be

emailed to you from the FYE office. You can share and post in this page about yourself, your classes, ask questions, share memes, etc.
