Music Education Major Hopes to Inspire His Future Students

Michael D’Orazio, a junior music education major at Southern Utah University, has been interested in music since he was 11 years old. He was drawn to music because of the creative freedom to make art that was entirely his own. He transferred to SUU in the fall of 2017 from Antelope Valley College, a school in his hometown of Lancaster, California.

Art and Design Students Gain Experience in Tennessee

Alexa Harding and Elizabeth Edwards were awarded scholarships this summer to the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, an internationally recognized visual art education center, located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The school provides creative experiences year-round with different workshops focused on visual arts. The experience gave Harding and Edwards a chance to expand their education and dive deeper into their art.

Katie Smedley is from a small Dutch coastal town in western Michigan and was introduced to Southern Utah University through relatives who lived in Utah. It was a big decision to attend SUU, but with a scholarship and encouragement from her family, she decided to make the leap. When she arrived, Smedley was shy, out of her comfort zone, and unsure of what she wanted to pursue academically.
